Mn Housing & Homelessness
What Providers Need to Know This Week
Weekly Update | October 5–11, 2026
Minnesota housing and homelessness providers have several important funding, compliance, and service-delivery deadlines approaching. Here are the developments organizations should have on their radar.
Washington County Opens Homelessness-Prevention Funding Opportunity
Washington County released a Family Homelessness Prevention and Assistance Program request for proposals on October 5.
Approximately $605,000 is expected to support homelessness prevention and rapid rehousing services, subject to Minnesota Housing’s final funding decision. The county will prioritize assistance for families, including case management, housing navigation, move-in assistance, and short-term rental support.
Eligible applicants include nonprofit organizations and public-service agencies. Selected providers must participate in HMIS, submit quarterly reports, coordinate with local housing partners, and administer both supportive services and financial assistance.
Proposal deadline: October 29, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. Central
Anticipated service period: October 1, 2027–September 30, 2029
DHS Updates Housing Support Capacity-Building Opportunity
On October 9, the Minnesota Department of Human Services added its first question-and-answer document to the Housing Support Program capacity-building funding opportunity.
The initiative is intended to strengthen organizations serving people who receive Medical Assistance home- and community-based services while expanding access to stable, community-integrated housing.
Proposal deadline: November 18, 2026
Anticipated contract period: March 1, 2027–June 30, 2028
Organizations considering this opportunity should review the updated guidance carefully and confirm all eligibility, partnership, documentation, and implementation requirements.
Final Preparations Begin for the Minnesota Homeless Study
The 2026 Minnesota Homeless Study will take place on October 22.
Participating shelters, transitional-housing programs, domestic-violence programs, hotel and motel voucher programs, drop-in centers, and street-outreach teams should finalize:
Interview coverage and staff assignments
Outreach locations and schedules
Participant communication
Surveys and incentive procedures
Backup plans for staffing or location changes
The Minnesota Homeless Study is separate from HUD’s Point-in-Time Count. Its findings help government agencies, funders, advocates, and providers make decisions about housing programs, funding priorities, and services.
